This week short break would be my first break after entering the life of a college student. And it was such a pleasant relieve because I don’t think I could take another pressure after 2 weeks of new things and assignments with tight deadlines . Fortunately for me, my parents took the whole family for a holiday in Bandung, Indonesia.
The seven of us, five of my own family and two cousins went via Air Asia. Well we’re lucky we could take everyone because of the cheap fare and non-peak season. The journey took us about two hours and it was rather bumpy because of the weather condition, gave us some restless moments and we were really tense. The journey sort of bringing back my sweet memories going holidays with friends as we experienced the same condition when we were riding a boat to Pulau Perhentian. So much for the memories.
Dad took us straight to the restaurant to have our lunch . There’s this one stall where he would always come and have a taste of its Bandrik and Nasi Uduk. The place is called Kampung Kebun. It’s rather catchy, don’t you think? The Bandrik they served is marvelous, well at least that’s what I feel. After lunch we head straight back to the hotel to check-in into the resort. We settled in and have some rest and not long after that my youngest brother got ready to go for a swim. Honestly I don’t really like water that much, but I joined them anyway, just for a try. I told them the pool is okay, but the jacuzzi is a big no-no. I hate it when the bubble jets gets into my swimming suit, it gives me the tickles. But that day things sort of changed.
Later that evening we all went out to do some sightseeing around the small town of Bandung. The weather was rather chilly as Bandung is a valley city that is surrounded by green hills that sort of traps the wind that blew from the sea to the land. It was a surprise as we found out that there were many boutiques and shops that were selling branded items that we normally see in luxurious malls in Kuala Lumpur. Although I must admit, that we are not sure if it’s an original or a fake, but it sure looks like the real stuff.
As I am also an avid photographer, I took every opportunity to shoot all the interesting places in Bandung, capturing the essence of the place, the mood of the people and the unique culture and architecture that is a mix of Dutch colonialism influence and Indonesian fine carvings. The three days we spent there seem to pass by extremely fast and I truly wish that I could spend more time exploring Bandung and getting to know more about their culture and their food.
The experience certainly opened my mind and makes me wonder what it would be like if I were to be here again after my graduation and the knowledge that I gain after college, would it change my perspective of the place and it’s people or would I be able to appreciate it more and able to express it better so that I would able to share it with everyone. Well that thought remain to be seen.
