A new beginning

So it was official. I am not in high school anymore. College enters my life, a sign of a new beginning. Going to college is a big step in my life. This is a change for me, change from being a young adult into becoming a full grown adult. A new beginning that I may refresh myself and my life again. I call this a great new start. I meet many new people and make new friends. New adventures. A new life. I have always thought of college years as being an introduction to real life. The reason why I believe so strongly in the importance of college is because of older relatives and friends that went to college and their outcome. I compare my future goals to their present day lifestyle and it doesn’t seem that much different from mine. I feel very deeply about the importance of going to college and receiving a “higher learning” to prepare me for my life long goals. Being the oldest of three children, I am the only one of the bunch to actually "see the light" and walk through the doors of a higher education facility.

Academically I see myself as being above average. However there are subject that I do have trouble with such as Math and that makes it seem like I’m average but I know I’m far from that.
Subjects that I have interests in such as Science, History, Islamic Education and, Art. I try to do my best at every subject but it seems that certain subjects such as History come to me faster and are more interesting. Generally, college classes aren't that much more difficult than high school courses. The big difference is that in college I have to do all of my homework outside of class. Another big difference between high school academics and college academics is the importance of the test. First off, with a diploma and then a degree I am almost guaranteed an excellent job once I get done with college.

These first few weeks of college have not been so bad, because so far I have just been learning the concepts of being a college student. The lectures are really good and have given the students a few good tips on studying. I also learned how to manage my study time rather than going out and getting wasted before a big exam. Not only have I grown educationally, but I have also grown mentally. My father once told me, "Always give 110% in whatever you do because you have the ability to do whatever you want to do in life." When times get difficult, I always just say that little quote in my head and I am confident and know that everything is going to be alright.

Finally, I really hope that I can get good grades in college. I look to a successful future and I am doing my best. I want to be satisfied with my decision. My plans for the future is having a great job with a loving family who's willing to support me in my good and bad times.
